In July 2019, the German Federal Foreign Office (GFFO) became a funding partner of MapAction in an exciting and broad-ranging programme of work. This is enabling us to remain at the vanguard of humanitarian response missions but also, vitally, to overhaul our technical offer. It include developments such as:
Automating the creation of humanitarian geospatial products, including data acquisition and product distribution, using methods that we can then share with partners.
Developing our capacity to have specialist personnel in situations for longer than our previous deployment model allowed.
Placing a Data Scientist in the Centre for Humanitarian Data in the Hague, enabling sharing of knowledge in both directions.
