Board of Trustees:
Andrew Douglas-Bate, MBE (Chairman) co-founded MapAction in 1997. This followed a 45-year career in industry in Europe, the Middle East, India and the Americas working in steel, shipping, commercial security and recruitment. He is also a trustee of the charity RAPID-UK and serves as a district councillor in Buckinghamshire.
James Brown has spent 15 years on the front line of humanitarian affairs. He has worked with various international NGOs and United Nations organisations and served in the emergency response team for the UK Government’s Department for International Development (DFID). He has recently worked on humanitarian projects in Afghanistan and is an active UN disaster coordinator.
Helen Campbell is an active volunteer with MapAction and has deployed on overseas projects with the charity. She became a trustee in 2009 after serving as volunteer representative to the board. Helen is a GIS data expert on the staff of the British Antarctic Survey and has substantial knowledge of geospatial technologies.
Jonathan, the Earl of Cork and Orrery recently retired as a director of ED&F Man Sugar, the global commodities trading firm. In his earlier career he served for 15 years in the Royal Navy and commanded the submarine HMS Sealion. He is an active voluntary trustee of several charities in the UK.
John Howe CB, OBE is former senior civil servant and was later vice chairman of the UK division of the international electronics group Thales. He joined the MapAction board in 2009 and is also a trustee of an educational charity and a member of the advisory board of Durham Business School.
Bruce Mauleverer, QC has served as a charity trustee on the boards of UNICEF UK, the Jubilee Sailing Trust and the Tavistock Centre. During his legal career he sat as a judge and also specialised in alternative dispute resolution, and became vice chairman of the International Law Association.
Graham Payne, OBE founded and directs RAPID-UK, a search-and-rescue charity with an international track record in humanitarian disaster emergencies. This was founded on 32 years service with the West Country Ambulance Service. He is a serving Brother of St John Ambulance and the Area Staff Officer for North Devon.
Nigel Press is the founder of one of Europe's leading specialist satellite mapping companies and has wide expertise in remote sensing and other geospatial technologies. He has given strong practical support to MapAction since 2002, now serving as Development Director, and became a trustee in 2009.
Patrick Vigors (Honorary Treasurer) joined KPMG to become a chartered accountant (FCA) after an earlier career in the army. He is now an active interim manager specialising in financial roles with startups and turnarounds.
Dr Toby Wicks was an active operational volunteer with MapAction for several years before coming an emergencies staff member with UNICEF. He has a PhD in remote sensing and substantial experience in GIS and related technologies. He has also previously worked for the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the UK’s national mapping agency Ordnance Survey.
Victoria White joined MapAction as a volunteer in 2002 and has deployed to natural disaster and post-conflict emergencies and capacity building missions with the charity. She is a staff member of the GIS software firm ESRI and has substantial experience in geospatial consulting and project management, business development and marketing.
Roy Wood was formerly UK Director of Military Survey, as a Major General. He has recently served as chair of the British Schools Exploring Society, and is currently a Council member of the Royal Geographical Society and on the management committee of the Mount Everest Foundation. In addition to his board role he also serves as MapAction's International Director.
Chief Executive:
Nigel Woof joined MapAction in 2003 as a volunteer. He later joined the staff team and was appointed chief executive in 2009. He has deployed on numerous humanitarian missions in Africa, Asia and the Americas. His career has encompassed the army, general management in business, and environmental consulting. He has MBA and MSc degrees and is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society.
